Today has come to an end a crucial three-day event, dedicated to preparing the Special Olympics World Winter Games Turin 2025, with an active involvement of Special Olympics International, Special Olympics Italy, and the Local Organizing Committee (LOC). Over these days, numerous meetings have took place among the various Functional Areas, culminating in a meaningful event attended by three ministers: Alessandra Locatelli, Minister for Disabilities, Andrea Abodi, Minister for Sport and Youth, and Daniela Santanchè, Minister of Tourism.
The opening remarks were given by Lorenzo Mancino, a Special Olympics athlete, who has shared an inspiring thought: “The World Games represent an extraordinary opportunity to celebrate diversity and showcase a positive vision of disability. In its purest form, disability is like jazz music: only with many different, seemingly dissonant instruments one can create a fantastic and unique melody.”
The attending ministers, then, highlighted the importance of this event not only for the cities of Turin, Sestriere, Bardonecchia, and Pragelato but for the entire Italian Country.
Minister Locatelli has emphasized the need to foster a true team spirit: “Let’s work together to drive this initiative forward. The government stands by the athletes and their families.” Her words reflect the collaborative approach that Italy aims to adopt for the success of this international event, which aspires to be a vehicle for inclusion and cultural growth.
Minister Santanchè underscored the heart and passion needed to make the Games experience special for athletes and their families: “Communication is essential. Knowing how to convey expertise is crucial. Alone, you go faster; together, you go further.” Her commitment to promoting the Games through effective communication aims to convey the values of Special Olympics to a national and international audience.
Andrea Abodi, Minister for Sport and Youth, has shared with the audience his long-standing connection with Special Olympics: “Every experience enriches me and motivates me, as well, to go beyond sport. Hosting these World Games means investing in human capital. It’s an opportunity to involve the entire nation in a journey of growth and inclusion.”
A heartfelt thanks to Toyota for the warm hospitality they have extended, offering us a large area of their headquarters during these significant days.
In this context, the Special Olympics World Winter Games Turin 2025 represent a turning point, not only as a sport’s celebration but mainly in promoting the values of inclusion, solidarity, and participation, able to guide Italy towards a more ethical and conscientious future.
